Ok, the long-anticipated SD EX-Standard Unicorn Gundam (or I might as well be the only one who did wait for this kit)

This, as well as any EX-Standard kits, relies on stickers to look 'good'. Just look at the sticker. You can see that there are both white and red stickers. This means that you would have 2 shades of white and 2 shades of red on this little kit, which is very bad IMO. I would use the stickers for the V-fins, eyes, and cameras though.

This is how it looks without any stickers:

With all the red and white stickers

(Just to make it clearer, you will need 3 white and 1 red stickers on each foot, 3 red on the front skirt, 2 red and grey on the lower torso, 2 red on each shoulder armor, 4 white on each arm, 9 (yes, 9) on the shield, 2 golden for the V-fins, 1 black and green for eyes, 2 green for back and front cameras. Wow, that is a lot. And yet, it is still not enough)

As for the articulation, there isn't much to talk about. The only thing that stands out is the 90 degree elbow bend.

And then, there is this... if you want to buy this kit for this 'gun':

Size comparison:

Final words:
- This kit is screaming for a paint job. Using stickers will only give us a mediocre result because there aren't enough stickers. However, the worst aspect of this kit is the accessory. Bandai only gives us the beam magnum, and to make the matter worse, it is extremely flat (just like any other ex-standard kits) and has pegs all over the place; thus, I strongly recommend getting something else for this Unicorn. Even the decoration beam saber handles are flat. The only selling point is the very low price and the proportion.
- So, only get this if you like how it looks and don't mind painting. If you don't, save that money and get the normal SD Unicorn, which can transform and has actual beam saber, non-flat beam magnum, marking stickers, and much better color separation.

it is cool too see good/better proportioned SDs but that sounds like a failure of a kit

So at the core of it all, it's still just an SD kit? Nothing really special?

Close but not enough. At the core, it's a bad and cheap SD kit. I'm wondering what does 'ex' mean?

Can't expect much out of that price tag. But to me, the Ex-Standard line is nothing but disappointment so far, and I doubt that it would improve in the future.
They just need to raise the price and give us smaller sticker sheets and better weapons! Those funny/weird looking customization options would NOT help this line

I'm fairly sure that previous SD releases already did better than this. I've got one of the really old SD F90 kits. Nowhere near as good as the Ex-Standard, but I can mod it. The early 2000s had some fairly decent SD kits of the Strike Gundam and other MS. Why can't they use that same tech?

Also, I think it's kind of not fair to use the Unicorn as an example, because it really REALLY needs more clear red or clear green parts to look good without paint or stickers.

From what I've heard ALL the EX Standard kits are of this level.

Disappointing, really.

One day I'll get that MG-quality inner-frame SD kit I've always wanted.

It seems that the focus of the ex-standard line is cheap and well-proportioned kits. So, they're trying to keep the price down by reducing the total number of parts.
Personal, I would prefer to have all red to be stickers (due to the price tag) in order to have a consistent shade of red across the model and let the money pours into something else (the feet or the weapon for example).
One more thing, did bandai actually think that ripping the V-fins of the head of the Unicorn and RX-78 was a good idea?
