Migrating Hosts
« on: June 19, 2015, 10:49:25 AM »

Howdy fellas,

The time has come to give web city the old heave ho.

Too much down time for a no down time package lol. Also they have been responsible for taking us down on at least two occasions for BS reasons which has cost me accumulated hours on hold trying to sort it out with them.

So... who should we go with? Go Daddy are out. Crazy Domains are out as well. Don't mind spending a bit extra for decent service but prefer not to breach $100 per annum if possible.

I need a user friendly cpanel and seamless transfer.

Also while I have your attention who the eff put grunt build banners in the HLJ banner positions? That's a No-no. They are our sponsors. Please don't ever do that again. Kthx.

Link me up guys and I will make it happen asap.

i honestly have no idea where is good to go these days its been so long since i've had to look in to something like that, that what to look for is vastly different, i would suggest opening the question up to some of our members who seem to deal with this sorta stuff a fair bit, i know i've seen a couple guys comment on hosts before, ill take a look around the web for suggestion too though

how long we got till?

My goodness I can't even compare what we have with what the new host will offer apparently our package no longer exists, yet is renewable? ffs..

found it.. was just a bit buried

http://hosting.webcity.com.au/business-pro1.php/cloud-web-starter.php

Looking at: (standard)

https://www.netvirtue.com.au/economy-hosting

(economy plus)

https://ventraip.com.au/web-hosting/economy

Net Virtue gets the better rap, Ventra IP looks more suited to our needs (unlimited monthly bandwidth vs 400gb with NV)

Does "Free Cpanel migration" mean they will do everything for me? That's tempting....

Then I suppose I'll have to point the domain nameservers at the new host yeah? Cam?

As far as the banner is concerned I thought you were the only who had the godly powers to manipulate the layout. Must have done it in your sleep  ;) ;)

Those two both get a good rap on WP, and their people are on there pretty frequently also which is pretty cool I guess it means they care about their image & customer satisfaction.

As a person who uses the internet and computers regularly (and even sometimes for my job) I feel I'm expertly positioned to give you an opinion here. Both look like good options in the price point you're after.

Ignore anything about "guarantees of 99.5% uptime" as that's in all SLAs, and the SLAs always then go on to list all actual reasons you'd get outages as being exempt from this classification, including things like the server actually exploding.

Uh, I like VentraIPs website layout more, if that's at all relevant.

Without an idea of bandwidth and server load requirements for the GAF I can't really look much further. The hosting requirements I usually deal with generally involve hardware that costs more than my house, so I'm kinda out of familiar territory here. If you need a highly available clustered solution with all sorts of other fancy contrived wanky bollocks let me know. ;)

Ok guys n gals I've just purchased hosting with ventra IP. There may be some down time while we migrate to the new servers. Please be patient.
