With the last Grunt Build, #8 'The Ultimate Warrior' about to kick off I thought now would be a good time to take a look back on what has been a bit of an institution on GAF, The Grunt Build series.

It all started off back in March 2011 with ODE to Cannon Fodder - Grunt MS Group Build. There were 21 starters and 7 finishers. Some even completed multiple MS. The standard was high and set the wheels in motion for the next 3 1/2 years of Grunt Builds.

Here's a link to the topic http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=1054.0 No prizes were awarded but some outstanding kits were completed.

TheBloody13th

Hemish

Shifty

Zeta Newtype

Wolfman X

Falldog

alphabeta

Hoardz

zenma5ter

Mokana Man

Next came Grunt Build #1 Vanguard of Zeon. This was the first build to have prizes.

This was an OOB build with no paint except for clear coat. Weathering and small mods were allowed. There were 6 starters & 5 finishers. http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=1959.0

3rd was zenma5ter

2nd was Solo
Couldn't find any pics

1st was thegunny

#2 build was 0079 Ground War. Basically any ground pounder from the One Year War, vehicles included. There were 9 starters and 7 finishers. http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=2172.0

Only two places were awarded;

2nd was Shaid

1st was Potchip

#3 build was Shattered Century. Stolen MS, cross dressing, cross timelines, it had it all. There were 17 starters and 9 finishers. This was the first build to have separate categories. Advanced for anything goes and General for OOB with minor mods. Two places were awarded for each category. http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=2941.0

General didn't have enough entries so an award was given for Best paint Job to Garret Masterson.

1st in General was Epimethius

2nd in Advanced was flamingeyebrows

1st in Advanced was thegunny

Build #4 was Squad Leaders & Aces. Take a grunt and turn it into a veteran squad leader or ace's MS. 19 starters and 13 finishers. This was the first build using the guidelines established from a number of surveys. There was two categories, Open and Advanced with a Grand Winner and an encouragement award. http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=3389.0

3rd Advanced was Epimethius

2nd Advanced was Matt723

1st Advanced was tristan

3rd Open was Shaid

2nd Open was Fury=s12

1st Open was flamingeyebrows

Grand Winner was Hemish

Encouragement Award went to Xenomorph

Build #5 was Mission Specialists. Create a specialized grunt such as a heavy gunner, radio operator or the like. 13 starters and 8 finishers. This build had Open & Enhanced OOB categories and an encouragement award. http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=3916.0

3rd Enhanced OOB was Hawk105th.

2nd Enhanced OOB & Encouragement Award was Jimmy The Guz

1st Enhanced OOB was Matt723

2nd Open was zenma5ter

1st Open was Xenomorph

Build #6 was The Ultimate Bad Ass. Hudson got the message over, State of Bad Ass Art. 9 starters and 5 finishers. Due to a lack of entries in Enhanced OOB all entries were judged as Open with allowances made. http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=4335.0

3rd was Tulip

2nd was LordGaz
Pic not available

1st was Matt723

Build #7 was Can I Grab a Lift Mate? Model a grunt suit with some sort of transport to get it to the front lines. 6 starters and 4 finishers. Once again due to lack of entries only one set of prizes was given out. http://gundamaustralia.com/forum/index.php?topic=4768.0

3rd place was Wavehawk

2nd place was Xenomorph

1st place was thegunny

So there you have it. 7 builds and quite a lot of good models made.

UPDATE:

Grunt Build #8 The Ultimate Warrior has now concluded so I'll update the list with the winners.
As the build title suggests this was the pinnacle build. Build what you perceived as the Ultimate Warrior. One category this time, Open as I think by now everyone should have been up to the task of an all out build. Prizes were on offer for 1st, 2nd & 3rd as well as The Ultimate Rookie. We had 14 starters and 8 saw it through to the end.

3rd was taken out by Xenomorph with their Zaku "Assault Special"

2nd was taken out by c4cloud with their Stark Jegan Heavy Type

And the Ultimate Warrior was Torquamedus with their Early Type Guntank.

i definitely fell into the non-finisher category more often then i produced an entry which is annoying but what are you going to do, the series produced some great builds

As a relatively new member (I think I joined around the #6 Ultimate Badass build) it's cool to see all of the early group builds that I missed. So thanks for that Gunny.

So there's been 8 'grunt' group builds and this is the last one, yeah?....so there'll be more group builds to come, just not grunt themed?

Hope to see more finishers this time  ;D

Yeah as one door closes another one opens.

It would appear the lowly plain old grunt that I prefer to build has been superceded by the red cordial drinkers and their Build Fighters guff  :-\

Overinflated porcupines are now the flavour of the month it seems  :fyou:
