Ballpoint art - Gundam drawings
« on: April 07, 2015, 02:29:21 PM »

Hey everyone!
I thought i'd share some of my gundam artwork with you all. I started drawing gundam a year and a half ago, and hot damn I enjoy it. I've drawn for years, but I haven't had as much fun as I do drawing other things compared to gundam. There's something about the mechanical angles and lines that I can't get enough of.

I usually draw in pencil, but too many times after a piece is finished, the pencil smudges just from carrying the sketchbook around. So I changed my medium and started using ink. I sometimes use a felt finetip, but I wanted to get some good shading. So I went and tested out around 20 ballpoint pens in the newsagency, and guess which one turned out to be the best, the good ol Papermate Kilometrico?! WHAT! Ha ha! I used these guys back in school soooo many years ago.

The ink comes out nice and dry, so it looks pencil-like shading and contrast wise.

I mainly copy the pictures from Ver Ka box art, or CG renders I find online, and others (like the Sinanju Stein) are copied from my own MG kits at home.

For any of you in brisbane, I've got my pieces up on display at a local art exhibition at 'The Scratch' bar in Milton. I'm selling prints as well there, so if any of you go, let me know what you think! (The beer on tap at the place is killer too, ooooh yum).

Later!
Josh

Hi Jozaeh, I love your artwork, I'm jealous of the amazing amount of skill and detail. Any chance of me buying one? ;D As for where this should be posted, you'd want to put your art in the "Tomorrow's MS developers" area, the catapult's for completed Gunpla projects

Awesome stuff!

It just so happens that I've been looking to buy some art prints lately too, but haven't found anything in particular that I liked. So, expect an email from me soon  :D

Ah no you're bang on, they're A4 size. And believe me that some details are so freakin hard to do becauss they're so small!! But the A4 size actually works well for this shading technique hey, anything bigger and the shading would just take soooo long.

That is pretty cool. I really like the clean style of the GP01 Fb Zephyranthes and Unicorn gundam. I might check out The Scratch bar next time I'm up in Brisbane (usually when I'm craving some food not available on the Gold Coast).
