Finally got a round to applying the decals

Although there are a few things I would do differently overall im quite happy with the result. For anyone looking at doing this kit my tips would be

  • The kit assembles into several modules. I would build each module and paint them complete.
  • A few areas need to be masked to do the paint job right e.g. the legs and the tip of the cannon.
  • Be sure to check reference pictures before painting. Not every piece is cast in the correct colour.
  • Next time I would paint the relevant deck of the Arms platform blue rather that using the full colour decal.
  • Some decals are hard to apply once assembled... be careful with the thrusters on the arms platforms

Recently I completed the transformed "attack" version of the kit. Using what I learned from the ship version this one came out really nice. The most important change I did was to use a grey copic pen for the panel lines/ contrasting panels. It came out much close to the reference paint job

Looks good. I wish Hasegawa would get their finger out and release the TV version. The TV version in cruise mode followed pretty soon after the Movie version but this time nothing.
