Confirmed Kill; The Reaper's Last Harvest
« on: December 28, 2011, 07:54:35 PM »

Well it’s finally happened. I’ve finished the diorama. It took a bit longer than expected but hopefully it’s worth the wait. I’ll start off with a bit of a rundown of what has gone into it. The Gundam kits used were an MG DOM, RX-79[G] and an RGM-79 GM Sniper. The hovertruck is a resin B-Club kit, the house is a HO scale ruined German Strass house and the troops are Prieser HO (1/87) US modern infantry. Aftermarket parts include HIQ nozzles, resin and Kotobukiya weapons and various brands of decals. Paint is mainly Tamiya and Vallejo.

Edit;(Sorry forgot to add that I included the obligatory soldier pointing at something)

I’ve written a short story to go with it that elaborates on the scene. I’ve put a spoiler tag on it so you don’t have to endure it if you don’t want to.

I have included a fair few pictures. I’ll put a few general views up and spoiler tag the rest, that way if it’s not your cup of tea you don’t have to see anymore.

I humbly present: Confirmed Kill; The Reaper’s Last Harvest.

On to the pics

Thanks for suffering through all that. Hope it wasn't too bad  :)

I laughed. I cried.

Then I stopped watching TV and checked out your post. ;)

Looks amazing gunny! I feel kind of bad for the Dom's pilot, all dead there in a pool of blood.

Is the soldier graffiti-ing the wall, or relieving himself on the graffiti that's there? Haven't seen Foo for years, I don't think the kids these days scrawl him anywhere anymore.

You going to mail this off to someone in Sydney for GBWC next year?

Top work!

Thanks. The soldier near Foo was originally the squad leader but I lost the map case he was carrying so I had to come up with something to do with him. As far as having a leak well I'll leave that up to the viewer.

No GBWC, it wouldn't survive the trip  :-\

Gunny's already said he's not keen on comps, which is a shame becuase this is really amazing work.

I could write a short story about all the things I think are great about this, and I probably will.

Suffice to say for now that there are so many details to explore. Everything is executed with extreme precision. Everything is positioned in a way that demonstrates a lot of forethought and planning went into really depicting a scene, which is vividly what this does. Even without reading the back story, which is one of the best you'll ever read, you can see all of the implied meaning in the work alone.

The back story makes me think Gunny has read his share of SAS novels. A Chris Ryan fan perhaps?

For now I'll whack up a quick feature on the blog and the forum news ticker, and see if I can spare some time to pen a few thoughts another time.

Gunny, I know this has been a long and frustrating campaign and I'm really glad you stuck with it. This is truly inspirational. An Australian Military themed Gundam diorama is something I've long wanted to see and your work delivers way more than I thought would be possible.

Congratulations. This is honestly outstanding.

Just amazing. So many details that contribute to the feel and the diorama itself really portrays a story. Those graffiti on the suits are also pretty cool.  ;D

Sorry never even heard of him to be quite honest. I know my niece reads that sort of thing so I'll ask her. You forget that I've been there and done that so to speak, all be it back in the day when it wasn't trendy and didn't sell books  :D

One word: WOW! :o

Excellent piece there Gunny - I love all the little fine details that you included.

It's a shame you're not located nearby, otherwise I would offer to (photo) shoot the hell out of it for you.  :P

Hopefully one day I'll be able to create something even half as awesome as this - well done!

Thanks all.

Thanks, I did mention early in the WIP that it would have a Vietnam era feel to it. Glad it worked  :)

Well done sir I am really enjoying this build. There are a lot of little details and the story is well represented in kit form. I really like the figures and hidden weapons in the building. The personal touches on the kits them selves including after market parts, mods and painted on images gave the individual MS's a personallity. An over all fantastic piece of work.

No GBWC, it wouldn't survive the trip  :-\

Plus they would sting you on the hovertruck with the no resin rule. Would also have liked to see this ranked with everyone else.

Thanks  :)

No resin even if it's Bandai's own (B-Club) seems a bit harsh. Just another reason why I don't like comps that much, too many BS rules  ;) :-\
