Brisbane Workshops
« on: October 11, 2011, 09:20:33 AM »

To the Brisbane folks, If we were to start organising a monthly workshop where would you prefer it held?
Once a month say first Sunday of a month at a nominated location, we get together and build kits, paint etc what say you??

Will have to make sure its close to a bus service then,, hmmmm  wonder if there are any meeting halls anywhere, painting might be off the cards but building would certainly be ok

This has actually come up in conversation at Zombster a few times.  Although we can't do painting here at the shopping centre, the centre management has been open to running small workshops in the middle of the centre (in front of the David Jones here).  They would be able to give us up to 6x3 metres of space, which would be open to the public to view.  We were originally going to organize a workshop for the school holidays, but a certain large event became a priority for us.  We would be able to help organize something for the summer holidays though.

As far as public transport goes, the shopping centre is accessible by ferry, bus and train (train station is part of the shopping centre).  The centre also has bucket loads of free 4-hour parking in the garage. We would be open to trying to organise something for a group build to happen either in the store or in the centre.

As much as that would be cool, I dont think a shopping centre would be the ideal place to go once a month to do this and then there would centre management ok to do it. I think it would be better as the one off type thing like you guys mentioned in the school holidays.
I think it would be better to hit a local hall or school to see how we would go.
I will look around and see what I can find close to transport

You need to arrange public liability insurance to do this in a public location such as a hall. Talk to Mokana about it, he knows the ins and outs pretty well.

For me, Sunday is pretty much off the cards. Weekends are difficult in general but I might be able to make 1 sunday in every three months.

It would be easier to host it privately so insurance isn't a factor, but I know that getting to my place on the coast is difficult for some. I am still a fan of the idea of alternating whose house it is held at, and Hoardz it's your turn mate. You still owe me a game of one on one. ;D

Would be keen for something like this. Plenty of online resources available, but they don't always address the finer points you're wondering about.

My efforst are getting better but I still have a ways to go, so any feedback is good feedback. Plus I won't cop flak from the lady for "playing with toys" if I take it to another venue....

Will watch this space for anything confirmed.

Find organization with venue and insurance, coerce them of there resources then profit. seriously finding a venue is the hardest thing to do. Tock us almost 2 years to get our hands on something. Try Churches, scout halls and comunity centers you may have to make a regular donation or small hire fee which we do. Insurance is near impossable so try to keep your group closed and only invite trusted inderviduals who are not likely to sue. It ant easy to run a club...

I support the idea of a zombster based workshop if we can find a way around the ab issue it would be ideal but its definitely a great thing to have their support for this kind of thing. weve been discussing it on and off for a while :)

I know some of the libraries around Brisbane has some rooms that you can rent out. Also the casino in Brisbane opposite the library has rooms that they frequently rent out groups such as this
