HG 144 ACGUY - Mars Camo Pattern
« on: June 13, 2011, 08:02:25 PM »

First up, credit to ranalcus for giving me the name for the camo pattern, sounds better than pink bits camo :-)

This is the HGUC 1/144 ACGUY. A fun little kit and my contribution to the canon fodder GB.

The camo pattern was done using blu-tac and was a simple process. The metals are alcad white aluminium, great paints and nice finishes, highly recommended. Decals are courtesy of samueldecals, great service and products, check them out.

I would like to have experimented a bit more with washes and highlights, but I got to a stage with this kit where I didn't want to experiment on it and was happy to put it on display as is. I will have lots of questions for all the weathering aces out there soon :-)

Only dissapointment was some silvering that occured on two of the decals. I tried a home-brew mix for my gloss coat before decals, and I think that caused the problem. Future from now on!

C&C welcome and appreciated.

Awesome.

I love it.

Highly original colour scheme and camo method for an Acguy. Excellent decal placement and a totally clean finish. Beautiful work with the alclads. They really do come up a treat.

This is just really cool. My favourite Acguy this year, hands down. Very nice work Hoardz!

Hard to get very dynamic poses out of this kit, pic 2 is the winner for me there. Lovely photography and great choice of backdrop colour.

Yeah very noice. I'm loving those decals, they look great
Only nitpick would be that you left the bit under the lower head the black instead of the internals colour but the rest is pure win.
I Also think this is one of those suits that dont need that extra work man, you did yourself proud, now hurry up and get on that ReZel :)

@Sonar. Cheers mate, thankyou for the compliments. Glad to be able to contribute here. Dynamic and ACguy don't normally appear in the same sentence, so it's jumping or standing, thats it :-)

@Hemish. Thanks mate, you were right when you recommended this kit, was easy and fun to build. You will have the same decals pretty soon! I never even thought to paint the lower head a different colour, damn, always next time with this kit right? Rezel......and zudah!

Very nice. Love the contrast of the reds on the black and the silver on the black. Great stuff

Great. Nothing wrong with clean builds  8)

Interesting take on the tiger stripe scheme. The only thing that looks out of place to me are the 2 decals on the head. Being 1/144 those warning signs or what ever they are, are the size of a person  :o  Maybe underwater troops on Mars have bad eye sight  :D

Like the way the alclad came out. I've got some to use on my 2 Musha's so good to hear it's easy to use.

The colours reminds me a lot of armour from Mass Effect 2.

@Sonar. You're too kind mate, that was awesome. The zudah is getting some attention, just looking at weathering now, looking at a lot of the work from the forums to figure out where to go with it.

@Xenomorph. Thanks for the compliments mate, much appreciated.

@Hemish. Will bring along to QMHE, as long as you bring all your acguys :-)

@Zetanewtype. Thankyou sir, looking forward to GB EX to keep learning and developing.

@GOZ. Hats off to you mate, your tutorials and work inspire a lot of the work that goes on around here. Glad to hear that the contrasts worked.

@Gunny. Thanks mate, glad to know the clean builds are ok, still got a long way to go before I can punch out kits in the quality/quantity that you do mate. Underwater troops on mars, lol, nice call! The decals on the head were not planned like that, I killed one of the large decals that was going to cover both sides of the head so I feel a bit funny about that area too. Alcads are the best, just a nice glossy black and the Alcad at low psi straight out of the bottle, you will be laughing!

@Shadow298. Thankyou mate, I am glad to get so much positive feedback. ME2 armour, love the game and it's designs, I think my next playthrough I will go 'mars camo' all the way through :-) cheers.

Looks great Hoardz, like others have said the camo has come out really nice and really pops against the black.... Just enough splashes of colour too

What paints did you use mate.... The black looks really good really solid

Done a great job mate :)

Pic 1 is my fav.... Get to really see that kick ass claw

@Shifty. Thanks mate, much appreciated. The black paint was just tamiya gloss acrylic, the reds were flat acrylics, with white added to the base red for the stripes, standard acrylic grey flat for internals and white aluminium alcad for metals. All sealed with future and then a matte to finish. Cheers mate. Your destiny is an awesome example of clean work and I think it looked the part in the GOZ's video of the model expo.
