Gunpla prices and supply could not possibly be further from my concern at the moment. I sincerely hope the death toll comes to a halt quickly and that the situation in Fukushima can be resolved swiftly and without incident.

^^ I agree. To be honest, to be worried about plastic at this time is a bit much given the situation.

/negative opinion

Got in touch with mates in Tokyo area and they are OK...just thrown around a bit

My thoughts go out to all effected and I hope our Japanese forum mates and their families are OK

After any natural disaster the major killer is disease and lack of amenities like food and clean water. Sometimes its the after affects that kill more people than the initial disaster.

A disaster of this magnitude is likely going to have a death toll in the thousands. While there is nothing we can do for those who have died we can help reduce the death toll caused by the after affects of the disaster. So far I've only been able to confirm that the Australian Red Cross is providing assistance that we can donate to.

The link is here: http://www.redcross.org.au/japan2011.htm

Also if you're thinking of donating I suggest you read this article: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=1221

Lets lend some assistance here guys.

lets hope the aftermath wont be too severe and that aid and rescue efforts run smoothly. I pray for those involved, hopefully this disaster does not affect anymore people than it already has.

I still cant believe the images and video coming out of Japan at the moment.
The death toll on this will be huge, as horrible as a thought that is, there is no way it wont go up, the video of that wave coming in and washing things away would have been a major killer and word was that in came in so fast that people along the coast had hardly any warning.
Thoughts and prayers coming your way Japan

i just made the rounds checking for new updates (its early morning here ) most i can find is on the nuclear plant. their plan is to pump sea water into the plant to cool the reactor. i guess there was an explosion there not long ago due to equipment malfunction. U.S. Marines from Okinawa were mobilizing to help the relief efforts and i believe 20+ other countries were already sending help.

edit- just got word my friends all right. everythings a mess for him right now but hes safe. HUGE relief....

I don't believe half of what is being reported on this nuclear situation and I think it is much worse than what we are being told. Who saw the footage of the building exploding and the pictures of the shell that was left? A thousand tonnes of concrete just vaporized and you're telling me the reactior is fine? C'maaaaan.

We will be taking up a collection for victims of this tragedy which we will then disperse to a suitable registered charitable organization/s as more information becomes available.

If you wish to make a donation, we have set up a paypal account:

japanquake@gundamaustralia.com

No amount is too small and all proceeds will go to a worthy cause. Please give what you can.

You can also help by reposting this comment on your favourite blog:

Donations can also be made to the Australian Red Cross Japan and Pacific Disaster Appeal which is where the GAF appeal donations will be going if I don't find a more direct channel in Japan that I think can benefit from our help.

Just incredible the way their society is so orderly and organized. I heard a guy on ABC radio yesterday commenting on it. He said the streets of Tokyo on Friday night were just gridlocked and there were tens of thousands of people walking home and every time they came to a crossing they would stop and wait for the light to turn green. Amazing. One of Busterbeam's friends in Tokyo commented that she walked 5 hours to get home on Friday night. That's a hell of a long walk in the bitter cold. Hope she was wearing sneakers and not heels or something.

I just saw an image of people on the roof of a hospital who had spelled out 'SOS' in towels and sheets, and '300' to indicate the number of people that needed rescuing there. Such a powerful image. The stories of rescue and loss will be just heartwrenching over the coming days. It's just incredible they are making helipads out of whatever they can find and telling rescuers in the air how many people they have alive on the ground.

Please everybody spare a thought for GaiGun who is stuck at work and unable to travel home to his wife and daughter.

Indeed spare a thought for the tens of thousands of people who are now without basic amenities such as drinking water, homeless, bereaved, orphaned, poisoned, or worse. A large number of Australians remain unaccounted for. Spare a thought for them and their families who must be beside themselves and worried sick.

Images are now being shown of Minamisanriku. It was completely flattened. A town of 10,000 people and it is now a flat sea of debris and not a soul has been accounted for.

I have a friend who has had her water supply removed. She has a newborn baby. My wife has a colleague whose elderly father was evacuated from Miyagi Prefecture just in time. I'm just so thankful that everybody that I know is so far safe and well, and tremendously sad for everyone who is affected.

This is a disaster of epic proportions. They now say the death toll may exceed 2000. I fear it is likely to be in the tens of thousands.

Thanks very much to Mokana Man for your donation! Keep them coming folks.
