General Discussion / Re: Melbourne
« on: December 13, 2013, 08:36:57 PM »
Best spots in the CBD are Victorian Hobby Center in Swanston Street (at the Flinders Street end, up a flight of stairs near the KFC) and Hearns Hobbies in Flinders Street (near the intersection of Elizabeth St and Flinders St on the station side of Flinders). Both have Gunpla, but Vic Hobby Center is the better of the two.

If you have time to venture just outside the CBD, head into Animasia at 99 Gratton St, Carlton for a huge range of Gunpla and Anime gear.

Oh, don't worry about the weather, it's supposed to be mid 30's next week it's just a Victorian thing to be crap and cold for a day or two before getting hot and dry for it to only go back to cold and crap again a few days after that. Gotta love the Victorian Summer!

Engineering Corps / Tutorial : Modifying Limb Proportions
« on: December 12, 2013, 05:42:09 AM »
In this tutorial, I demonstrate how easy it is to modify the length of a Gunpla 'limb' by doing a little bit of 'plastic surgery'.

Why would you want to do this sort of modification? Well some Gunpla Builders feel that some kits aren't proportioned correctly and wish to rectify what they see as an error, where as some, like myself, just like to change the way a kit looks by doing small modifications like this.

That box art was floating around during recent shows and GBWC events in Asia. All the Thunderbolt kits have similar styled box arts, if they are real and not just promo arts, then I would love to blow these up and make a huge poster out of them.

Engineering Corps / Tutorial : Easy Cast Iron Effects
« on: November 16, 2013, 06:51:19 PM »
Ever wanted to give your Gunpla a more realistic, worn metal look? In this tutorial, I'll demonstrate how easy it is to create a Cast Iron effect using some Solvent Glue and an old Toothbrush.

WARNING: Solvent Glue can be hazardous to ones health, so please use in a well ventilated room in short periods.

Engineering Corps / Re: HGUC Kits that SMELL?

Nope, Animasia. And no, it's never happened before, EVER. Steve's at a loss himself as to why it happened.

Time for your bi-yearly shower chairmen.

Here's something that's been sitting on the work bench for a while now and I've finally got around to finishing it, the HGUC Geara Doga :

Some minor mods done but it was more a mental health build than anything.

Engineering Corps / Re: Air Brush and Compressor Discussion Thread
« on: November 10, 2013, 12:02:08 PM »
Put an inline water trap between the end of the hose the the air brush.

The one at the compressor end will get the water straight out of the compressor but not what forms in the air line. When the warm air comes out of the compressor and hits the cooler tubing, thats when condensation occurs which will then be trapped if you add an inline water trap at the other end of the hose. If you don't, you will end up spraying blobs of water with your paint and ruining your work.

That stuff is buffable like Kaik said. So a little polish and the problem will go away.

Thanks everyone! There's a lot of stuff that could've been done better, so here's hoping that my next gbwc entry is better.

The Catapult / The Attack of Zeon - Sazabi Diorama
« on: September 19, 2013, 08:59:14 PM »

As the battle raged on outside the Colony, the attack moved inside and into the heart of the Federations territory. Noticing the High Mobility Prototype Sazabi entering the Colony through a gaping hole in the outer hull, the lone GM pilot knew that this may well be the last thing he would ever do. He had to stop the Sazabi no matter what happened, the survival of the Colony was all that mattered. The pilot pushed the thrusters to max and sped inside the Colony after the Sazabi.

Landing near a power substation that powered one of the main military bases, the pilot readied himself for battle. Before he could even draw out the beam saber, the Sazabi was on him and next thing he knew he was flat on his back staring back up at the gaping hole in the hull he just came in through. Fear set in as the pilot tried desperately to get the GM back on its feet only to see another Mobile Suit walking towards him over the hill. 'What in gods name is that?' he thought as the Dra-C Walker came into view. 'This is it' he muttered to no one in particular as his attention turned back to the Sazabi and the horror that was about to be unfolded onto him......

This took nearly 13 months from the first snap until I packed it up for the GWBC. I estimate well over 300 hours build time and over 400 decals over all 3 models. The Sazabi contains 3 different kits (MG Saz, HGUC Kshatriya, SD Kshatriya), the Dra-C Walker has 3 as well (HGUC Dra-C, SD Kshatirya and SD Zeong) and the GM is OOB.

And there is this of course :

This build will be appearing at Gundam Front Tokyo in Japan just before Christmas! :D

I've got tons of WIP photos to put up later on if anyone is keen, but until then :

Man, that train is fantastic. It's rare to see rust portrayed so real in a scale model, even down to the pitting and holes.

And from the looks of the Mecha stuff, I predict that Hemish is going to do pretty well this year (hopefully it will motivate him to get out of his burnout phase).

Thanks for the photos Gunny.

« on: August 25, 2013, 07:15:29 PM »
What I suggest is similar to what others have said, don't do it if it's annoying you, that will make things worse. Step back and try something different like a tank or a plane or just do another hobby for a while until you get the urge for Gunpla back.
