The Catapult / HGBF Dom R35 Rambla Ral's MS
« on: November 10, 2016, 06:04:04 PM »

Finally completed this latest build, a HG Dom R35, originally purchased this kit as a cheap way to pass time with the good people at QHME but it actually surprised me as a kit and as an MS and i decided to go all out with it.

As a kit, the newer HGs are rather amazing, if you've avoided HGs for any reason i suggest going back to them, the builds and resulting kits are great, especially the range of movement they get now. The colors and overall design of this particular MS definitely helped sell it.

Went all out with this, oob color repaint, damage, weathering, plus tried out some new things, namely sponge chipping, really happy with the outcome, looks great on the shelf.

I documented the whole build process on instagram, if you are interested check out @furys12 for the complete WIP.

and of course the completed kit photoshoot album

Mecha Plamo Display / HMM Liger Zero Panzer
« on: August 24, 2016, 09:14:57 PM »
Finally completed this build, perhaps my most ambitious project to date, the plan was to make a digital camo liger zero panzer with my usual HMM treatment of painting all the details and then weather it all afterwards and i think i've pulled it of pretty well, really happy with the result and even managed to take 3rd in SF1 at QHME with it, definitely worth the pain that is digi camo.

The first stage of this build was to take the base liger, to which you can apply any of the liger CAS armours and make it a permanent panzer, the base liger still has some white armour from the plain liger zero and the kit has some weird baby blue pieces for some reason, i painted all these black, to match the frame, or green, to match the panzer armour later on, then i painted all the details into it to make the pop out, there's a tonne of detail and work that will never be seen once the panzer armour is on but knowing its there to be seen if the armour moves just right is cool imo.

After that i painted all of the armour in 3 color digital camo, 2 of the greens i chose came out super similar so in some spots it looks like just 2 color camo until you get up close, not the desired outcome but still effective and interesting so i like, plus i burned out so much during this stage it took 6 months to complete so im not about to redo it.

Once it was all back together i painted in some details and gave it all a panel lining and then some weathering, paint wear on the whole kit and some dirt on the legs.

Then i broke the leg joint pulling it apart for QHME haha.

Anyway heres the full album on the build Enjoy

Alright here's my entry the extra long named hazel, nice little kit actually, although weirdly the missing yellow and grey details could easily have been part of the kit proper there were other yellow/grey parts the same size/shape/mounting chances, so that's weird but anyway, followed the instruction manual pictures and added the missing separation, deleted some of the seam lines and then panel lined the whole thing in the yellow as per the imaged, first time i ever seen that.

overall a fun little challenge, heres a link to the album with all 9 pics, the 4 required have been direct linked

Mecha Plamo Display / Tomy Zoids Warshark
« on: December 16, 2015, 09:51:04 PM »
This kit/toy was originally released in 1999 by TOMY as part of the motorised zoids line running then (NAR/NJR) and i've owned it for about as long always been a fan of the zoid itself and the particular kit, it has very good detail for a kit of its time and the mechanics were pretty well integrated, save for the big windup stalk, i've always wanted to give it some lovea nd coincidentally i wanted to give digital camo a go, the two seemed like a good match.

The over all plan was to remove the windup motor, give it a repaint with two digital camo schemes and then bring out all the detail, pretty happy with the outcome based on those goals!

Heres what it looked like originally

And all pulled down ready for the work to begin, unfortunately i lost the pics somewhere but the two purple pieces above the tail are the two sides of the body, one side gets ruined by the wind-up stalk, i filled that putty and used pla-plate to recreate the grill thing on the ruined side, the best picture of the result is one fo the last ones below.

My entry is a MG RGM-79(G) GM Ground Type, no major mods but i have extensively roughed it up and weathered heavily.

I took the brief in a different direction, my take on the ultimate warrior is not one of a suit full of weapons and toys but that of a small band of reluctant heroes the suit they resurrected to protect the people, tired of seeing the towns around them fall victim to the war, just another unfortunate casualty in the bigger picture. These villagers dug up a partially buried and long forgotten relic of the long war, a very neglected RGM-79, not broken, simply abandoned, too expensive to keep in the war machine, victim of the weather and time of it's shallow grave in the jungle, cleaned up as best possible this RGM-79 valiantly stands guard of the few towns left unravaged by the war willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep the buildings and the people standing.

The first kit from the new tomy-takara line, MasterPiece has been given an official unveiling, the line will start with the Shield Liger, because they all do, its 1/72nd scale, though like the zoids of old some liberties were taking to accommodate the mechanism's, the kits look to have a internal frame to which you add the armour, the kits can walk, move in various other ways, have various sounds to accompanying the movements and at least one led also timed to sound/movement, all for Y12,000.

but the video is all thats needed

Mecha Plamo Display / HMM Fire Fox
« on: April 06, 2015, 07:19:28 PM »
My latest build, and first completed in a while haha, the HMM Fire Fox by kotobukiya, the zoid itself is a variant of the popular shadow fox from Zoids NC, i don't believe the Fire Fox was ever shown in the anime but it did appear in the manga and as part of the older OJR/NAR motorised line.

This kits is very good easily the best HMM kit i've put together so far, in terms of fit and stability, nothing felt like it was going to break when putting it together and nothing falls off if you breath on it, it comes with a wealth of decals, waterslides at that, but actually requires 0 of them, not a decal guide in sight, you could apply them and obviously the model number ones fit only this zoid but i decided to keep the clean look and save the decals for another kit.

Pretty much an OOB build with some details added here and there and the hydros made uniform, don't know why koto keeps thinking some hydros being all silver and some all gold is ok, applied some soot, gun metal, silver weathering kit to it to rough it up a little and top coated flat to finish it off

very happy with the result and the poseability is great though its a very unbalanced kit so getting it on the action base is a test of balance skills

Mechachat / Zoids: HMM Death Stinger and new 1/100 figure line announced
« on: February 10, 2015, 11:22:38 AM »
From wonderfest over the weekend, kotobukiya have announced they are firing up the zoids line for stage 2 (they took last year off zoids instead making z-knights which pretty well failed) starting with the Death Stinger, easily one of the best looking zoids out the colors have been darkened from the anime, probably because it would look cheap in bring colors, cant wait to get my hands on it.

they also announced a robot damashii style prebuilt but articulate 1/100 scale figure line to run along side the HMM line, with the first release being the murasame liger.

other announcements included a repackage of the irvine command wolf which will come with a new decal sheet and pre painted figure (the original release was from before that was the norm)

details are thin beyond that, they teased the blade liger(shocking) and genobreaker as the next releases in the figure line, release date and price for the death stinger are unannounced as are up coming releases

Announced at NYCC as part of the 35th anniversary of Gundam, Sunrise and Right Stuff Inc, the current Gundam distributor, have announced an expanded distribution deal to release every Gundam series to date in North America, this will include re-releasing long out of print series like the very first series and first time releases of series such as Turn A or ZZ.

No more details of release dates, dubs or subs etc have been announced but this can only be good for Gundam in general and should at least lead to lower prices on Gundam dvds/bds

UPDATE: discuss all shizuoka hobby show news here

as described in this article by DC23 based upon an all japanese tweet by bandai (hobbysite) a new line is going to be revealed and on display in the 1/100 scale featuring basically every feature they used to describe the RG line or the 3.0 which was a 1/100RG if we are honest.

if the price is right im all for this, i recently built my first RG and it was grand, that in a bigger scale can only be good.

Mecha Plamo Display / HMM Lightning Saix Fury Special
« on: January 30, 2014, 06:37:19 PM »
HMM Lightning Saix with my spin on it, the kit is a irvine special which comes with the green eyes and "prototype" armour, the armour i decided not to keep due to poor fit and quality, but the green eyes were kept to combine with the lime green conversion to all the dark red parts of the standard kit plus all the detailing a HMM deserves, really happy with how this turned out, the green is a bit rough and chips easily but the end result is exactly as i pictured, what more could you want.

time for the photos

And an attempt at a run animation thanks to google auto awesome
